Three cheers for the new King Charles as proclamation read from royal balcony
Three cheers have run out for Charles III as the Principal Proclamation announced from the balcony of St James’ Palace that he is the new King.
The cheers for the new monarch were echoed by the crowd and gun salutes.
Shouts of God Save the King were also heard as the Coldstream Guards doffed their head wear and put their guns on the floor.
The first public proclamation was read at 11am in the open air from the Friary Court balcony by the Garter King of Arms.
Applause broke out outside, before a crowd of thousands sang the chorus of the national anthem, singing ‘King’ in place of ‘Queen’ following the death of Elizabeth II on Thursday.
Those gathered outside then stood and listened to a gun salute in the distance.
