Prince Philip has left hospital after being admitted for a month. The Duke of Edinburgh has been recovering from an infection and subsequent heart surgery. Former BBC presenter Andrew Neil spoke to ITV This Morning about the impact on the Queen and the rest of the Royal Family.

He told viewers: “It is indeed good to hear, the Queen will be much relieved.

“She’s not been able to see her husband for quite some time now.

“You naturally begin to think the worst when someone at Prince Philip’s age is kept in hospital for such a long time.

“They wouldn’t be letting him out unless it was safe to do so.”

Mr Neil continued: “They wouldn’t be letting him out unless it was safe to do so.

“So the fact that they are is a huge relief for the Royal Family and for the nation.

“The Duke of Edinburgh is still with us, still around.

“No doubt still determined to cause trouble whenever he can.”

Prince Philip leaves King Edward VII Hospital in London

Philip was pictured leaving the hospital in the backseat of a car.

It has not yet been confirmed where the Duke has gone.

He had been spending the lockdown at Windsor Castle in a special bubble with the Queen.

Philip was first admitted to King Edward VII hospital in mid February.

Buckingham Palace said that this was as a “precautionary measure”.

They later confirmed that the senior royal was being treated for an infection.

Eventually the senior royal was transferred to St Bartholomew’s for his heart surgery.

He was then taken back to King Edward VII to continue his recovery.
