Theresa May MELTDOWN: Humiliation as associations set to try and OUST PM

Grassroots associations such as Clwyd South, Wales, have even scheduled a vote on whether to pass it on April 24. According to the Daily Telegraph, although the associations have no power to oust Mrs May, their opinions could push local MPs to follow their advice. Draft reports of motions have also been published, with one reading: “We have no confidence in Theresa May to lead the Conservative Party and request our MP to take steps to ensure there is an urgent/ immediate vote of no confidence in the Prime Minister in Parliament.”

The latest news comes as Mrs May continues to haggle with Labour and the House of Commons for support of her deal.

At present, her withdrawal agreement has been pushed back three times.

She also faced a vote of no confidence motion from MPs in December.

Mrs May secured a rare victory after 200 MPs voted to keep her in Downing Street.

By winning that vote, no further confidence ballot could be held against her within a year.

The Daily Telegraph suggests that members of the Conservative backbenchers’ 1922 committee are already working on lists of candidates.

One source said: “We would conclude our side of the leadership contest within two weeks and then the party and the country would get four to six weeks of decision making.

“So we then elect the new Prime Minister to come in for just before recess.”

Mrs May’s party is split over Brexit, with many rows damaging the Conservatives.

EU leaders are set to order Theresa May to accept a Brexit delay of up to a year with the hope the UK would “rethink” its decision to leave.

Tory MPs were furious at the expected “lengthy” delay.

Jacob Rees-Mogg, chairman of the European Research Group of Tory backbench Eurosceptics, said: “This shows that the EU has no interest in democracy and expects voters to be cowed into obedience.”
