Found in the west wing, it is named after the window that runs along one side. The Queen’s coffin was surrounded by pieces of royal memorabilia kept there.
The grand room is where the Queen held arrival lunches for visiting heads of state.
Former US president George Bush and the Arsenal football team have been hosted there.
The New Zealand All Blacks paid a memorable visit in 2005 when they met the Queen and a 23-year-old Prince William. The royals were treated to a performance of the haka.
Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby were given special access to the Bow Room for a Platinum Jubilee edition of This Morning earlier this year.
They were joined by Gyles Brandreth as they shared anecdotes about the Royal Family before the Queen’s long weekend of celebrations in June. Celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal gave a presentation of his Diamond Jubilee Concert picnic in the Bow Room in 2012.
Today the coffin will be taken to Westminster Hall, where the public will file past.
