The Queen’s 72-hour deadline for Meghan and Harry resolution before Prince leaves UK
It comes as speculation arose Harry could leave Britain with no return date as early as next week. Her Majesty was pictured for the first time on Friday since the Sussex’s declared their intention to step back from their roles as senior royals. She told courtiers to solve the dispute by Tuesday evening, ahead of Harry’s first public appearance since his announcement later next week.
The Queen also told courtiers to “turn a crisis into an opportunity” by producing a blueprint not only for Harry and Meghan but for future royal generations.
The royals have 72 hours to find a workable solution, according to the Daily Telegraph.
A negotiations source told newspaper: “Let no one be under any illusions, the Queen is calling the shots on this.
“The Queen is the one making the decisions, aided by the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge who have been instructed to enact what she wants to happen.
“The Queen’s hand remains firmly on the tiller and the three households are working well together to try to find a solution.”
They continued: “Within 24 hours of the statement being issued on Wednesday night, the Queen had convened a working group and she wants a solution in a similar timeframe – less than a week.
“The talks are progressing well but there’s a lot to be worked through.
“The bigger the issue gets, the calmer it gets. There’s a good degree of pragmatism.”

The source believed the situation will be resolved by “this time next week”.
They added: “But in getting this right, you are not only solving a conundrum for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex but others further down the line of succession for years to come, including Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.”
A source close to Harry questioned whether the deadline could be met with Meghan being back in Canada already.
They suggested the couple would resist any attempt to reach a hasty agreement on their future roles.

The royal insider insisted the Sussexes “were not going to quickly sign off their future and their lives”.
They cast doubt over a solution to the dispute could be found in the “next few days”.
Harry has still not held meetings with his grandmother, Prince Charles or Prince William.
It is understood further telephone conversations between them will take place over the weekend as their staff continue to work towards a compromise.
The Queen is currently in Norfolk, with Charles in Scotland, William in London and Harry in Windsor.
Harry is separated from his wife and Archie who are believed to be staying on Vancouver Islands, Canada.
It is not clear when Meghan will return to the UK.
Prince Harry is expected to honour an official engagement at Buckingham Palace next Thursday, but he could leave soon afterwards.
An aide stressed he would not fly to Canada until a “satisfactory deal was done”.
There have been no further engagements planned for the couple in the UK, so there is no set date they need to return to the country.
