The Queen WANTED to go to Archie’s christening but Meghan and Harry made major blunder
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son, who was born in May, is being christened at Windsor Castle tomorrow in a private ceremony. They had originally wanted the service to be held today, but didn’t realise Prince Charles and the Queen could not attend.
Meghan and Harry moved the date to accommodate Charles, but Archie’s great-grandmother and great-grandfather will have to miss the historic moment.
The Queen is spending the weekend in Sandringham with Prince Philip.
It is understood that Her Majesty wanted to attend Archie’s baptism but as head of state her busy diary is often booked up to a year in advance.
A royal source said the Queen was “happy” with Meghan and Harry’s decision to hold the christening this weekend.
They told the Daily Mail: “They went to her office with the date and a collective decision was made.
“The Queen has had the US state visit and Holyrood Week in quick succession and has had this weekend with the Duke of Edinburgh in her diary for a long time.”
But a Buckingham Palace insider added that Meghan and Harry should have been more careful with the date.
They said: “There is huge support for the couple in not wanting to conform to tradition.
“They are young, they are striking out on a different path from other members of the royal family and there is enormous goodwill for them.
“But they shouldn’t do that without regard for tradition.
“Her Majesty was already scheduled to be in Scotland for her annual Holyrood Week and had a prior engagement at the weekend.
“There is a feeling amongst some that they should have been more accommodating about the date.”
Meghan and Harry prompted a backlash over their decision to keep Archie’s baptism private after it emerged the taxpayer paid an eye-watering £2.4 million to renovate their family home.
Prince William and Kate let the media record the royal family arriving at the christenings of their three children.
But the Sussexes will only release selected images taken by their photographer.
The couple are also refusing to share who they have chosen to be the tot’s godparents.
