The Queen extends travel time to allow for bath on Royal Train, expert claims
Prince Philip's royal train bathroom request discussed by experts
The Queen, 94, had one specific request for her bathroom on the Royal Train when it underwent renovations 1977. Royal biographer Omid Scobie revealed Her Majesty and Prince Philip, 99, have separate bathrooms and sleeping quarters on the train. He also detailed how the Queen has the train slowed for her bathtime so the water does not splash.
Speaking on Heirpod, Mr Scobie said: “The train underwent renovations a few decades ago and they were on a budget.
“Inside everything is pretty much what you would expect from a train albeit with a few tweaks here and there.
“Both the Queen and Prince Philip have their own sleeping quarters on the train, they sleep separately and William and Kate had to sleep separately on this trip which might have been an interesting experience for them.
“They both have their own bathrooms.

“In the Queen’s bathroom, she has a tub because she likes to have a bath in the mornings and the train itself slows down for her bathtime so the water doesn’t splash around.
“Prince Philip does not have quite the same luxuries but he did request for one particular feature to be added to the bathroom which was a shaving mirror which folded out in front of the toilet so when he sits on the toilet he can shave at the same time.”
The Queen loves to travel by the Royal Train but it is claimed she insists on knowing the departure time of the train in order to avoid fines.
ITV Royal Rota’s Chris Ship and Lizzie Robinson discussed how the monarch can be “fined heavily” by Network Rail for delaying trains on the network.
Queen worries about royal train being fined claims expert
Ms Robinson said: “It’s secure, efficient and effective at getting them from A to B.
“The Queen loves it, it’s her favourite mode of transport so it stays.”
Mr Ship added: “I was told some interesting things this week about how punctual the Queen wants the train to be.
“When she travels on it, she makes sure she knows exactly when it should be leaving and she’s there going ‘come on, come on, we should be going by now’.

“If the train’s late and delays trains on the rest of the network the royal train gets fined quite heavily by Network Rail.
“She neither wants to be late or end up with a huge fine.”
Ms Robinson said: “The good thing with the royals is they are never late for anything.”
It comes as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge embarked on a 1,250-mile journey across the UK earlier this week using the Queen’s train.
