Royal commentator Tom Quinn made the claims on Channel 5’s “William & Kate: Too Good to Be True?” which aired last night. Mr Quinn said members of the Royal Family wanted to ensure the Duke and the Duchess of Cambridge would not “repeat mistakes made by other young royals”, adding that they “didn’t want that to happen again”.

Speaking on the documentary, Mr Quinn said: “The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, will be watching very carefully, especially given that younger royals in the past have got things very badly wrong and they don’t want that to happen again”.

The programme also shows how the Duke and the Duchess met during their time at St Andrews in 2001 and their wedding in 2011.

William and Kate fell in love in Scotland while she was a History of the Art student at the university.

Mr Quinn said that William was enthusiastic to meet Kate that he tripped over and fell while he was walking over to her to introduce himself.

Mr Quinn said: “One of the funny stories is he was so desperate to meet her that as he walked towards her, he apparently tripped and said, ’Oh that’s a terrible start, you’re going to think I’m a complete clot.’”

The programme also revealed how, after her graduation, Kate was already preparing for life in a relationship with “high profile” William.

At the time, Kate was working as an accessory buyer in Jigsaw, when she asked to work part-time because she was dating a very “high profile man”, the programme revealed.

Kate started the role a year after leaving St Andrews, according to Daily Mail royal commentator Rebecca English.

“Kate did get a job. She worked as an accessories buyer but interestingly, someone at the firm told me at the time she went to the boss and said to them, ‘I need a job, but it needs to be part-time so I can work it around my relationship with this very high profile man’.”

Ms English said Kate’s idea to work part-time was “unusual for a modern woman,” adding that Kate could only remain at the job for a short period of time.

“She did that job for a while, but unfortunately the attention of photographers following her to and from work became too much.”

Kensington Palace have not commented on the TV feature when asked by Femail.

Prince William is, after his father Prince Charles, second in line to the throne with the Queen being Britain’s longest-reigning monarch to date.

Some courtiers have speculated that the Queen will use next year’s milestone birthday to hand over the the control of the throne to to Prince Charles as she turns 95.

The Duchess of Cambridge has been stepping up and assuming more responsibilities to support the Queen in recent years, and it is more apparent now in their efforts to remain active throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Some royal experts argued that the royal couple wanted to “comfort people” during the pandemic crisis and lockdown.

Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, told The Sun in May that the couple wanted to ensure they could use their position to help the Firm during these unprecedented times.

William and Kate have been holding Zoom calls with healthcare workers, participated in the weekly Clap For Carers and William even participated in a comedy sketch for the BBC’s Big Night In.

The couple also set up a mental health campaign, Our Frontline, to her frontline workers overcome the negative effects of the pandemic.

Ingrid Seward said: “They feel almost wholly responsible as they are the only influential ones young enough to be out there at the moment, apart from Sophie and Edward and The Princess Royal.

“They have the highest profile and want to use it to the benefit of the monarchy, which has to be seen as being a comfort to people at this time.”

The couple also visited the London Ambulance Service 111 control room in Croydon to praise the key workers for their efforts.
