Through Slip into Slippers, Age UK Dacorum’s inaugural Autumn FUNdraising and Awareness Campaign, the charity is asking people to get involved in celebrating the privilege of ageing and highlighting the needs of older people.

As a brand partner of Age UK, Age UK Dacorum needs to raise its own funds to continue to offer its vital services – particularly following a period that has been challenging for everyone.

David Pearce, the Chief Executive of Age UK Dacorum, says: “Our charity has had to adapt to ensure the people who need us most receive the help they need in these very difficult times.”

Dacorum supports older people to live independently and safely, preferably in their own home, while providing the chance to join social activities and make new friends in a bid to avoid and fight loneliness – a widespread concern in older age that is proven to damage people’s health and wellbeing.

“To continue our work we need to raise funds,” says Mr Pearce. Every penny raised through the Slip into Slippers community campaign will stay within Dacorum, directly benefitting older people.

Age UK Dacroum‘s ultimate goal is to create a warm and pleasant environment so that older people receive the services they deserve – the kind of support that everyone wishes for when thinking about their older days.

Many fear ageing, but in the right conditions, getting older is something to be celebrated.

When ageing people get the right help for any health conditions they face; participate in meaningful activities, and maintain — or even develop — their personal identity, their mental wellbeing is positively impacted.

Getting older doesn’t mean to live without satisfaction, purpose or sense of belonging – which it is sadly often associated with. Instead, it can be a stage of life full of experience, self-confidence, and time to make new connections.

Dacorum has chosen to celebrate their Slipper-thon on October 1, coinciding with the United Nations International Day of Older Persons, in the hope to bring together their loyal communities.

Joining the Slipper-thon means slipping into one’s slippers for the day, having fun, and posting some content on social media with the hashtag #slipintoslippersAUKD.

The more people join, the bigger impact on older people’s lives, which have been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now more than ever is it important to remind ageing people what a privilege it is to have reached the stage of life they are in, and to help them make the best out of it.

Mr Pearce says: “We hope you will show your support.”
