The luxury penthouse halls of residence that cost £11,000 per year

You might remember a stack of pizza boxes and a stolen traffic cone making up the decor in your student house.

Perhaps there might have been a garden full of splitting back sacks leaking crisp packets – or maybe home sweet home was defined by a parade of empty alcohol bottles arranged on the windowsill.

For students at a hall of residence in Dorset, things may look slightly different.

You’d hope they wouldn’t trash the place at a cost of £11,475 – the price of a penthouse apartment in Bournemouth which is more than many of us spend on rent as grown adults.

The new development has 101 rooms which each come with an en suite bathroom, kitchen and study area.

Some of the suites, that resemble high-end hotel rooms, even have sea views.

The building also has its own fitness suite, on-site cinema, communal lounge, games room and even a private ‘dinner party’ room. A karaoke room is also planned.

Regular rooms start from £9,435 a year (£786 a month) and there is an incentive to move a partner in as double occupancy incurs no extra cost.

The accommodation, which also boasts high speed broadband and wifi, is just eight minutes walk from the seven mile long world renowned Bournemouth beach.

It is built on the site of a former nightclub by student accommodation provider Collegiate, who say it has been designed to ‘impeccable standards’ and with students’ mental health in mind.

Eri Cuanalo, chief executive of Collegiate, said: ‘We are delighted to be launching our exceptional university accommodation at Collegiate St Peter’s Hall in an unbeatable central location in Bournemouth.

‘The development has been beautifully designed to an impeccable standard and offers a superior style of academic life, with spacious student apartments and incredible on-site features.

‘The welfare of our students is of upmost importance to us, and so we are thrilled to be offering students in Bournemouth unparalleled support and superb facilities for an unbeatable university experience.’

The accommodation, which opens in September, will be available to Bournemouth University and Arts University Bournemouth students, as well as students from local language schools.

It has attracted envious comments on social media from people who stayed in less glamorous surroundings during their university days.

Radek Szabat said: ‘I remember living in a cramped room and eating soups from microwave.’

Alex Hamilton added: ‘It won’t be the character-forming experience of living in a £45 p/w terrace house in Hull with en-suite heroin dealers.’
