The latest betting odds on who will win the General Election

The country is preparing for the 2019 General Election, with the upcoming vote being a week from the time this was written.

This election will be the third such vote in four years, and will take place on Thursday 12 December.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he pushed for this General Election because there’s a need for a ‘new and revitalised’ Parliament to get the nation through Brexit.

With registered voters due to cast their ballots in a matter of days, here’s a rundown of the latest odds on who will win.

Who will win the General Election?

According to Paddy Power, the current favourite to win an overall majority in the General Election this year is the Conservative Party, with odds at 4/11.

The odds that there will be a Labour majority are 20/1 and the odds that there will be no majority are 5/2.

Meanwhile, the odds that we’ll see a Liberal Democrat majority are 250/1 and the odds of a Green Majority are 500/1, which are the same odds that the Brexit Party will gain the most seats.

Paddy Power also has it that the odds are 11/8 that voter turnout will be 65.00-69.99%, and 8/1 that turnout will be 75% or over.

To win a General Election, a party needs to have secured at least 326 seats for their MPs, which is one seat above half those available and is referred to as an overall majority.

The leader of the political party which achieves the necessary number of seats must then form the new government at the Queen’s behest and will take office as the new Prime Minister.

Currently serving as Prime Minister is Conservative Party leader Boris Johnson.

Jeremy Corbyn is leader of the Labour Party, Jo Swinson leads the Liberal Democrats, Nicola Sturgeon fronts the Scottish National Party and Nigel Farage is the face of the Brexit Party.

Jonathan Bartley and Sian Berry are co-leaders of the Green Party, and Adam Price is the leader of Welsh party Plaid Cymru.
