The cheap-as-chips UK seaside town that’s home to one of the biggest pubs

With summer coming to an end, Britons have been planning a weekend getaway to one of the many gorgeous UK seaside towns, however, one in particular stands out.

Ramsgate in Kent had been named one of the coolest places to live by The Times earlier this year as visitors continue to sing its praises.

It tipped Ramsgate as Kent’s next cool and affordable postcode thanks to its beautiful beach and doer-upper Georgian townhouses.

Located a few hours away from London, the town boasts of a fish and chip restaurant that has been voted best in the country.

Newington Fish Bar has made the list and is rated the 31st-best restaurant in Ramsgate.

It has a 4.5-star rating on TripAdvisor, is a firm favourite in the town and offers meals for the bargain price of between £2 to £7.

Not only that but the Victorian town is also home to the world’s biggest Wetherspoons.

The Royal Victoria Pavilion in Ramsgate, Kent, was opened by HRH Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll in 2017.

The Grade II listed building is a former dilapidated pavilion and had been one of the most at-risk Victorian/Edwardian buildings in the land.

It was originally built as a concert hall and assembly rooms and was designed by architect Stanley Davenport Adshead.

The interior is believed to have been inspired by the Little Theatre at Versailles before it was simplified in the 1930s.

The area is ideal for commuters to work in the city as Ramsgate has good rail connections to London, with a journey to the capital that can be made in an hour and a half.

One Londoner who moved from the city to Kent told Kent Live “it’s about time” Ramsgate got the recognition it deserved.

Alice Moore, a self-described down-from-London convert who lives in Sandwich but has previously called Ramsgate home, currently runs two shops in Ramsgate with her partner. She said: “I moved here from London and I love it. I’m a DFL.”
