The beautiful town on a massive hill named one of UK’s coolest places to live

A “vibrant” village in Oxfordshire known as the “gateway to the Cotswolds” has recently been named one of the UK’s coolest places to live.

The picturesque village of Burford, located 22 miles south of Cheltenham, was included in a survey carried out by health and beauty brand Naturcan to measure the “cool factor” of villages and towns all over the country.

The survey assessed various criteria, including the presence of independent shops, cultural events, and social media engagement, making the town the “coolest” place to live in the county.

A deciding factor in determining the town’s desirability was its ‘Instagrammability’, acknowledging the significant role social media plays in driving tourism.

The town’s status as a filming location for popular TV shows and movies, such as Inspector Morse, has also contributed to its popularity.

Another of Burford’s major selling points is the abundance of independent shops that cater to the needs and tastes of its residents.

Residents claim the town’s commitment to preserving local businesses has helped create a unique and vibrant atmosphere that stands out in the region.

The town also boasts a rich calendar of cultural events, fostering a sense of community and excitement throughout the year.

Burford’s unique position as the gateway to the Cotswolds adds to its allure. Nestled in the West Oxfordshire district, the town provides easy access to the stunning Cotswold countryside, attracting nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

Commenting on the significance of Burford’s achievement, Naturecan’s Chief Executive, Andy Duckworth said: “All the 50 places on the list would have been worthy winners and show why the UK and Oxfordshire, in particular, are such beautiful places, loved by film-makers and tourists from all over the world.

“What is interesting is how influential Instagram has become in boosting tourism in many of our top 50.”
