A Tesco shop close to where the suspicious item was found was put on lockdown and shops in the area have closed their doors as a precautionary measure. Terrified shoppers were evacuated from a popular shopping centre after an emergency call was made. Officers then sealed off the local area, telling people to stay away. 

16:04 South Central Ambulance Service confirmed it has sent a hazardous area response team to the scene

The service said: “We are currently supporting our police colleagues in West Street, Fareham.

“We have sent to the scene two ambulance officers, an ambulance crew and (the hazardous area team).”
