Ali Harbi Ali, 26, was sentenced at the Old Bailey on Wednesday after he was convicted of murder and preparing terrorist acts.
The killer stabbed Sir David to death at the Conservative MP’s constituency in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, on 15 October 2021.
Mr Justice Sweeney sentenced Ali to a whole life prison sentence.
Delivering his sentence, Mr Justice Sweeney said: “This was a murder that struck at the heart of our democracy.
“Sir David was a man of the greatest substance, and he had done nothing whatsoever to justify the attack upon him, let alone his murder.
“On the contrary, he devoted his life to the lawful service of the public and was engaged in doing so when he was murdered. His loss is one of national significance.”
