Teenager hit by a bus in Co Wicklow
Emergency services spent nearly two hours trying to free a teenager from underneath a bus after a collision with the vehicle while walking home from school in Arklow, Co Wicklow.
The accident, involving a second-year student from Glenart College, occurred in the town’s Upper Main Street during rush hour at about 4.30pm this afternoon.
Major traffic delays developed in the town while the ambulance and fire service battled to free the youth from underneath the vehicle.
More than one a half hours later, he was safety removed and subsequently rushed to hospital.
The extent of his injuries is currently unknown, but a senior source told Independent.ie that his condition is non-life threatening.
A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are at the scene of a single vehicle RTC that occurred on Main Street Arklow this afternoon at approximately 4:30pm.
“A male youth in his teens was hit by a bus. The road is currently closed. No further information is available at this time.”
Local Cllr Tommy Annesley offered his sympathies to the teenager and wished him a speedy recovery.
“This was an awful thing to happen to anyone. My heart goes out to this young lad and I hope his injuries aren’t serious,” he said.
