Residents in a quiet village are “being held hostage” by a group of teen yobs who they say are wreaking havoc in the area.

The youths are leaving people in Thurnscoe, South Yorkshire, too scared to go outside after a recent spate of violence. Bus services have been suspended in the village at night because vehicles have been vandalised, and a man was stabbed near a takeaway establishment.

We are being held hostage. They are too young and we scared of naming and shaming them.

One resident said: “These are teenage children who are still at school causing trouble.”

Another said: “I have footage of the youths abusing members of staff and again even starting a fire.”

It’s claimed youths also threaten strangers on the street and steal garden furniture.

When one resident reported the yobs to police, he claims he had his windows bricked, Yorkshire Live reports.

A third resident said: “[Youths] came in my garden stole our garden furniture in broad daylight.”

Mick Haller, who lives in the area, said: “I know who did it. I told the cops.

“I told the parents. They insulted me and said I would get what is coming.

“Next day, they did my windows in, and tried to set my car on fire.”

Maria Prest, originally from Birmingham, said she too knows who is behind the notorious surge in violence. She said: “Everyone knows the kids doing this. Everyone does.

“We are being held hostage. They are too young and we scared of naming and shaming them.

“But at the same time, we can’t do anything. Police do absolutely zilch.

“Everyone is scared. They carry weapons.”

Shopkeepers in the area also claim they have to deal with yobs threatening them everyday and sometimes trying to make off with goods. Yassar Rizwan, who owns an off-licence, said the situation bordered on insanity.

He said: “It is crazy […] These kids can make you go up in flames in minutes. We are their slaves now.”

On a Facebook group, dedicated to Thurnscoe, 96 per cent of the last posts, all have to do with groups of young boys, in their teens, who are causing problems, and an entire community that does not know who or where to turn to.

South Yorkshire Police were approached for comment. In the past, the force has said anti-social behaviour by yobs will not be tolerated.
