Jamal Walker, 19, left one of his victims with a fractured skull in the violent rampage. A court heard he carried out the unprovoked attack because he had been “stressed” throughout the day.

This was one of the most shocking and senseless acts of violence I have come across in my entire career, and it was inflicted on three innocent men without any provocation

Detective Inspector Gary Pinner, of British Transport Police

The thug boarded a Victoria line train on the London Underground network in October 2020, before attacking two male passengers. He then left the train and assaulted a third victim on the platform at Seven Sisters station in north London.

But Walker was jailed for 12 years on Thursday after pleading guilty to Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) with intent, Grievous Bodily Harm without intent, attempted Grievous Bodily Harm with intent, and possession of an offensive weapon.

Speaking after the sentencing at Southwark Crown Court, Detective Inspector Gary Pinner, of British Transport Police, said: “This was one of the most shocking and senseless acts of violence I have come across in my entire career, and it was inflicted on three innocent men without any provocation.

“Walker is clearly an incredibly dangerous individual, and it is only through luck that his victims weren’t more seriously injured.

“While this was a truly horrifying experience for them, I’d like to reassure the public that incidents like this are thankfully extremely rare on the railway network.

“We are also lucky to police a CCTV rich environment which captured the incident in its entirety and proved invaluable in helping to bring Walker to justice. I am relieved to know he’ll now be spending the foreseeable future behind bars.”

The court heard Walker boarded the southbound Victoria line train at Walthamstow Central, and as the train left Tottenham Hale, he got the weapon out of his bag and thumped two men.

The yob left the train and assaulted the third victim who was waiting to board the service at Seven Sisters station.

Walker’s first victim was left with lacerations and a fractured skull and spent 10 days in hospital as a result. The third victim also received hospital treatment for a head wound, while the second did not require hospital treatment.

Forensics identified Walker through a carton of apple juice that had been left on the train and the discarded weapons.

He was later arrested at his home in Harlow, Essex.
