Thousands of youths descended on the central London park to smoke weed and protest for the Class B drug’s legalisation. However, violence erupted and a 15-year-old girl was knifed in the leg. 

Police had to perform first aid on the teenager at the scene before she was dashed to A&E, where her condition is not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

My London said officers became aware of a fight at the unlicensed gathering, which photos suggest didn’t always appear to follow social distancing guidelines.

A Metropolitan Police statement read: “A number of people are likely to have seen what happened. They are asked to call 101 or tweet @MetCC providing the reference CAD6227/20APR.

“An increased number of officers were already in Hyde Park after people gathered illegally in breach of Covid regulations.”

 

According to reports, many people were pictured standing by and filming the violence on their smartphones.

The gathering takes place on April 20 every year – the unofficial holiday for cannabis smokers and legalisation protestors who gather in the centre of London to protest the right to smoke marijuana.

It has become a day of celebration for users of the class B drug every year on April 20 as the date is written as 420 in the United States.

This year’s official event in Hyde Park was cancelled as a result of the pandemic but many still chose to gather.
