Teen boy in critical condition following collision

A TEENAGE boy suffered critical injuries and three others were left in a serious condition after a two vehicle collision in Cork.

The accident occurred on the Innishannon to Crossbarry Road, some 25km from Cork city, shortly before 2.30pm.

The collision involved a car and a van.

A teenage boy, who is understood to be 16 years old, suffered critical injuries in the accident.

He is believed to have been a passenger in one of the vehicles.

Three others, all adults, were injured in the collision.

All three suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The injured were rushed to Cork University Hospital (CUH).

The teen received emergency treatment at the scene from paramedics before being rushed to CUH.

He is said to be in a critical but stable condition.

Gardaí immediately closed the road to facilitate the work of the emergency services.

Motorists were warned to avoid the area if possible as the road is expected to remain closed for some time.

Garda forensic accident scene investigators will be conducting an analysis of the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the vehicles involved in the moments before the accident is asked to contact Gardaí.
