Friends of a schoolboy who was stabbed to death in broad daylight have laid tributes after four males were arrested in connection to his murder. Police and ambulance crews scrambled to Harborough Road, Northampton, at around 3.35pm on Wednesday (22/3). Despite the efforts of paramedics the boy, who has not been named, died shortly afterwards.
Northamptonshire Police have launched a murder investigation. A blue forensics tent remains at the scene and the road has been cordoned off.
Two men aged 49 and 21 and two boys aged 16 and 14 were arrested shortly afterwards and remain in police custody.
Friends of the victim lay flowers, heart-shaped balloons and cards paying tribute to the boy near the murder scene.
Nearby Kingsthorpe College, which was closed following the stabbing, also remained closed to pupils on Thursday (23/3).
One resident said: “The community is in shock. You really don’t expect such violence to happen around here.
“Most people living here are a mix of families and older folk. We all look out for each other so this has hit people really hard.”
Another local said: “It would be wrong to speculate what happened but there is a growing drug and gang problem in this part of town.
“It’s so sad to think a young man was killed in such a terrible way and so close to so many schools.”
Detective Inspector Simon Barnes said: “This is an exceptionally sad and tragic incident in which a young boy with his whole life ahead of him has died and I want to reassure the public that we are absolutely determined to bring the people involved to justice.”
Witnesses or anyone with CCTV, doorbell, or dash-cam footage can call Northamptonshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 23000174855.
