Teacher left ‘fuming’ in row with her neighbour over pet tortoise upsetting dog
A teacher was left “fuming” after her neighbours told her she can’t bring her tortoise into the garden as it “upsets” their dog. Enraged, Danielle posted the ordeal on Twitter and quickly went viral, with many social media users finding the situation laughable.
Danielle, who is an English teacher and self-proclaimed “cat lady”, wrote on Twitter under the handle @pastelteacher: “My neighbour has told me that I can’t have my tortoise in the garden because it upsets her dog….
“I did tell her I feel like she’s dictating what we can and can’t do and she responded with ‘well we’ve been here 60 years!’”
Danielle added that the incident occurred when she was going out and her neighbour “came out to the car”.
The tweet, which has more than 2,500 reactions and 76 retweets, has plenty of users commenting suggestions on how to handle the situation.
One Twitter user, @aligilleard, joked: “That made me laugh out loud. Tell her you’re thinking of getting a cat.”
To which Danielle replied with laughing emojis and said: “I have two cats.”
Meanwhile, another user, @Jaxy_jack, commented: “I think your tortoise would enjoy heavy metal being played in the garden.”
While many Twitter users found the situation funny, others didn’t understand how it could even come about.

One user, under the handle @mrsbettysbooks, said: “I don’t understand how a tortoise can upset a dog.”
Danielle replied to the comment and explained that her tortoise “was burying himself into the soil near the fence” and the neighbour’s dog was “going crazy”.
She added: “But it’s the whole situation. She could have actually said ‘I’m scared that she’ll hurt him’.”
Danielle added in another Tweet: “She’s constantly telling us we can’t park outside our house because her car won’t fit and her husband can’t reverse very well as he’s disabled.
“But that’s not my problem???”
