The 29-year-old religious studies teacher is understood to be an “emotional wreck” following his dismissal at Batley Grammar School in West Yorkshire, for allegedly using the caricatures. Yorkshire Live reports pupils there have been left “wordless and distraught”.

The teacher’s father

Speaking today, the teacher’s father said: “He is worried that he and his family are all going to be killed. He knows that he’s not going to be able to return to work or live in Batley.

“Look what happened to the teacher in France who was killed for doing the same thing. Eventually they will get my son and he knows this. His whole world has been turned upside down. He’s devastated and crushed.”

Protesters swarmed the school gates for two consecutive days last week when the allegations emerged, and eventually bosses suspended the teacher.   

But now a Twitter account – thought to be run by the same pupil who has created a petition for the teacher to be reinstated – claims all students fear the school will never be the same again.  

The tweet read: “A statement has been released from the RS [religious studies] teacher’s father. Honestly, its (sic) left all students wordless and distraught.

“Some cry, some rage, some mourn silently for losing such a great teacher. Its (sic) a hard pill to swallow. We all know deep down that BGS [Batley Grammar School] will NEVER be the same again.”

More than 66,000 people – many of whom said to be pupils – have signed the petition to pile pressure on the school, which caters for nearly 700 children aged between four and 18.

But the headteacher Gary Kibble “apologised unequivocally” last week after confirming the dismissal.

As Mail Online reports, the teacher and his family remain in hiding and have had to put a CCTV camera in their home.

His dad added: “He’s just a normal Yorkshire lad who loves his rugby and looks after his family. I’m very proud of him and it breaks my heart to see him so broken.”
