A blue Skoda taxi and a white Peugeot van collided on the A494 between Rhydymain and Dolgellau in mid Wales at around 8am this morning (Thursday). Emergency services rushed to the scene but the driver of the Skoda died at the scene.
A female passenger from the taxi and the male driver of the van were both airlifted to hospital, reports North Wales Live. They both have life-threatening injuries.
The road is likely to be remain closed for some time and diversions are in place, police say.
Sergeant Jason Diamond, of the Roads Policing Unit at North Wales Police, said: “Our thoughts are very much with the man’s family as they try to come to terms with what has happened, and it is very important that we establish what led to this tragic incident.”
He continued: “We are appealing for witnesses, and are particularly keen on speaking to the driver of a dark blue BMW estate, that was travelling on the A494 towards the Bala area shortly before the collision.
“We also urge anybody who may have been in the area and who has dash cam footage to please get in touch.”
The A494 is a busy dual-carriageway, which runs from Dolgelleau in the southwest end to Mollington, Cheshire, at the northeast end of the road.
