The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are already trying to steal the show before Kate and Prince William even had time to land in the US. The Prince and Princess of Wales will be showing their support for finding ways to tackle climate change at the second annual Earthshot Prize awards in Boston later this week. But their three-day “Super Bowl moment” could be overshadowed by the Sussexes’ attempt to steal the limelight.
The Today Show’s presenter Allison Langdon asked the Daily Mirror’s Royal Editor Russell Myers: “It sounds like the Sussexes are trying to out-celeb this little brother.”
Mr Myers said: “These two [the Sussexes] are up to something because I’ve just seen some pictures drop of Meghan at some sort of thanksgiving women’s refuge.
“I think there is a bit of power play going on.
“But William and Kate are there for serious business because this Earthshot project is very important to him.”
The Prince and Princess of Wales will end their three-day trip to Boston with the celebration of new ideas to solve the planet’s issues at the second annual Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony.
But what their staffers described as their “Super Bowl moment” could be clouded by the Sussexes’ attention-grabbing moves and own award.
Mr Myers said: “I’m sure Meghan and Harry have got a few things up their sleeve because they are over in the US.
“But I’m told there’s no plan for them to meet, unsuprisingly. I don’t think there will be rubbing shoulders this week.”
The last time Kate and William went to the US was in 2014 for a whirlwind trip to New York City packed with diplomatic engagements as well as commitments championing the couple’s favourite causes and promoting British interests.
The schedule included a visit to the National September 11 Memorial and Museum and a NBA basketball game between the Brooklyn Nets and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
This time around, the couple’s itinerary will include a welcome at Boston City Hall on Wednesday and a look at the work that organisations in Boston are doing to create a more sustainable world on Thursday and on Friday.
Among the organisations on their schedule is Roca, a non-profit organisation, which has worked for 35 years to create a cohesive approach to save and help change the journey of the lives of high-risk young people.

While Princess Kate will make a solo visit to the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University on Friday, Prince William will tour the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.
Though the Waleses and the Sussexes will be on the same continent, they are not expected to spend time together.
Only four days after the Earthshot Prize awards, Harry and Meghan will be presented with the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights’ Ripple of Hope Award in New York on December 6 for standing up to racism in the Royal Family.
