In footage released by former royal editor at ITV News Chris Ship, a horde of young people can be seen screaming “We love you Meghan” as the Duchess of Sussex and her husband Prince Harry exit Manchester Central following the One Young World Summit, where Meghan Markle delivered a keynote speech. Fans can be seen holding out their phones and desperately trying to capture the moment they saw Ms Markle, though the Duchess was within a car with blacked-out windows and could not be seen directly.
At the summit, the former actress told the 2,000 delegates how her life had changed when she last joined the summit in London in 2019 – singling out her role as a wife and a mother – but making no mention of becoming a senior royal the year before.
“I joined you in London in 2019. And by that point, it’s fair to say, my life had changed rather significantly. I was now married, and I was now a mom,” she said, leaving a pause at the end, which was filled with huge cheers from the audience.
“My world view had expanded exponentially, seeing the global community through the eyes of my child,” she added, speaking about her son Archie.
Speaking about becoming a counsellor for One Young World, she added: “And there I was, the girl from Suits. I was surrounded by world leaders, humanitarians, prime ministers, and activists that I had such a deep and long-standing respect and admiration for.
“And I was allowed in, to pull up a seat at the table. I was so overwhelmed by this experience, I think, I think I even saved my little paper place-marker with my name on it.”
However, critics have suggested that Ms Markle was not selected by One Young World but had actually reached out to the organisation.
Kinsey Scholfield, a royal and showbiz reporter from the US, claimed the Duchess had a manager who had “reached out to this company” in 2014 before she met Prince Harry.
Ms Schofield said: “She constantly tries to change history and to change the narrative. She had a publicist, a manager, that actually reached out to this company, Tom Bower says, in 2014 and pitched her to them.
“But the way she explained it in her speech was that they reached out to her and she was just the girl from suits.
“So, it is amazing that she acts like all of this just fell in her lap and people are rushing to her because they see so much value in her when the reality is Meghan is a hustler and she has always been a hustler.”
The couple’s trip to the UK and Germany comes just days after Meghan’s wide-ranging interview with The Cut magazine, in which she said it takes “a lot of effort” to forgive and hinted that she can “say anything”.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will now appear in Germany for an Invictus Games event, fresh from Meghan’s first in-person address in Britain since quitting as a working royal.

Harry and his wife are expected to meet officials and potential competitors in Dusseldorf on Tuesday to mark the one-year countdown to the 2023 games in the city.
The Duke founded The Invictus Games to aid the rehabilitation of injured and sick military personnel and veterans across the globe, by giving them the challenge of competing in sporting events similar to the Paralympics.
The Dusseldorf games will take place in September 2023, with more than 500 competitors from 21 nations across 10 sports.
This year’s games took place in The Hague in April, and during that event a camera crew filming for a Netflix documentary called Heart Of Invictus – a series from Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Productions following people competing at the event – was seen close to the couple.
