Most of the UK has seen bright sunshine, warm temperatures and sunny skies across the weekend.

But the summery weather has come to an abrupt end in some areas.

Visitors at Liverpool’s Pier ran for cover as a sudden thunderstorm left many drenched.

A Race for Life taking place in Bournemouth, Dorset, saw hundreds of runners soaked by the rain.

And a sudden downpour was welcomed by many across Manchester as the city saw its first rainfall in 23 days.

There are thunderstorm warnings in place across Wales and most of the west of England until 9pm on Sunday.

There are also yellow weather warnings for thunderstorms and rain covering the north and south west of Scotland, west of Northern Ireland, Wales and south west England between midday and 9pm on Monday.

Despite the rainy end to the weekend, it looks like temperatures will be rising again as we enter next week.

The Met Office has issued guidance that most of the UK will meet heatwave criteria next week – with the city of Manchester currently forecast to see the highest temperatures.

An amber alert for hot weather for hot weather has been issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
