Sue from Shropshire SLAMS Remain Alliance ‘utterly determined’ to shun 17.4m Leave voters

Sue from Shropshire tore into the leaders of the Liberal Democrats, Green Party and Plaid Cymru after they announced they reached a deal on a Remain Alliance in a last-ditch attempt to stop Brexit. The Jeremy Vine caller let out her frustration at politicians “utterly determined” to dismiss the vote of 17.4 million Britons to quit the European Union as she accused them of attempting to “re-educate” voters. Angry Sue said: “I voted Leave, originally – I had no doubts then.

“I don’t have to be re-educated or persuaded that I wasn’t able to make a decision.”

The Shropshire resident continued: “Yes, we have had a lot more information put our way but I know why I voted Leave.

“I object most strongly to a combination of politicians determined, absolutely determined, to prevent mine and the other 17.4 million voters from having their democratic choice.”

Liberal Democrat leader Jo Swinson announced on Thursday her party had reached an agreement with both the Green Party and Plaid Cymru to form a so-called Remain Alliance.

The electoral pact is aimed at boosting each party’s chances of securing as many seats as possible without facing competition from the others in 60 constituency.

Ms Swinson said she was “delighted” the Greens and Plaid Cymru had agreed to form the Unite to Remain group: “This is a significant moment for all people who want to support Remain candidates across the country.”

Lib Dem candidates agreed to stand down in the Vale of Glamorgan to maximise chances for the Green Party to take the seat – currently a Conservative hold under Alun Cairns.

The Greens will return the favour in Buckingham – now under John Bercow – and Warrington South, a Labour gain in 2017, as well as 38 additional seats.

Chair of the Unite to Remain group Heidi Allen said it was “an opportunity to tip the balance of power”.

The pact follows a similar deal earlier this year in the Brecon and Radnorshire by-election when Plaid Cymru and the Greens agreed not to put forward a candidate but instead gave way to the Lib Dems’ Jane Dodds.

She went on to defeat the Conservative incumbent, Chris Davies.

The pact comes after Plaid Cymru’s leader Adam Price wrote to several pro-Remain parties earlier this year, calling on them to work together in a snap general election.

Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage is hoping to come to a similar agreement with Boris Johnson after repeatedly offering his help to the Government.

Mr Farage said he is ready to have his candidates stand down should the Prime Minister agree to form a Leave Alliance to secure as many pro-Brexit prospective MPs as possible win a seat.

The Brexit Party leader issued an ultimatum until November 14 for Mr Johnson to agree to a pact or risk splitting the Brexit vote on December 12.
