Princess Eugenie, 31, was able to introduce her baby boy August Philip Hawke to her grandfather Prince Philip after whom he was named. Baby August was born in February just weeks before the Duke of Edinburgh died on April 9.

Speaking in the BBC documentary Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers which aired on Wednesday night Eugenie said: “We named August, August Philip because grandpa had been such a huge, inspiring character in my life.

“I brought little August to come and meet him and told him that we’d named him after him and it was such a lovely moment.

“We were very lucky to do that.”

During the documentary, Eugenie also spoke of how she shared a passion for art with the late Duke who was known to enjoy watercolour painting.

Philip died at Windsor Castle just months before he was due to celebrate his 100th birthday on June 10.

Eugenie was among royals including Prince William, Prince Harry, Princess Anne and Prince Charles to pay tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh in the special programme.
