During Scotland’s daily coronavirus press conference the Scottish First Minister outlined the nation’s key economic statistics amid the coronavirus pandemic. Nicola Sturgeon stated that there will be a gradual economic recovery that may take years for Scotland to return to their pre-pandemic levels.

Ms Sturgeon said: “In the first half of May almost one-fifth of businesses in Scotland were temporarily closed.

“That contributed to over 750,000 people being furloughed or unable to work normally.

“The report also shows that turnover is down in almost every sector of our economy.

“It contains new modelling which takes into account the different phases for easing lockdown.

“On that basis, the report forecasts a more gradual economic recovery, one which might not see us return to pre-crisis levels for a number of years.
