Sturgeon breaks ranks with No10 to announce UK lockdown will continue for three more weeks

Nicola Sturgeon stated during a virtual First Minister’s Questions that she is not yet certain that the COVID-19 coronavirus has been suppressed enough to lift lockdown restrictions. Scotland’s First Minister added that lifting lockdown measures too soon would result in an extremely damaging resurgence of the coronavirus in Scotland.

Ms Sturgeon said: “Firstly lockdown is going to continue beyond this week.

“COBRA will meet later on and other Governments have to reach their own decisions.

“My advice is that we must continue the lockdown measures for at least another three weeks.

“Because while we are increasingly confident these measures are working we are not yet confident enough that the virus has been suppressed efficiently to lift any of these measures.

“This is because the risk of doing that would be a resurgence that would be extremely damaging.”
