Star Hobson's mum 'at risk of prison attack from someone with little to lose'

The mum of Star Hobson who did nothing while her daughter was subjected to horrific abuse has been told she will need to watch her back in prison.

Frankie Smith, 20, was jailed for eight years for allowing the death of her 16-month-old daughter.

Star was beaten to death by murderer Savannah Brockhill, 28, after months of neglect and cruel treatment.

UK prisons can be dangerous places for people who have hurt children and Smith will likely need to be designated a ‘vulnerable prisoner’.

She could find she is a target at New Hall prison in Yorkshire, the facility where infamous killer Rose West is incarcerated.

A source told The Sun: ‘She’s a marked woman and it won’t be long before someone gets to her.

‘She’s on the lifers’ wing so there are plenty of women with very little to lose who will attack her for the price of a few bars of chocolate or some toiletries.’

The warning comes the day after it emerged selfless prison staff battled to save the life of evil Brockhill when she collapsed in prison.

Custody staff sprung into action on two occasions when the murderer suffered seizures while awaiting trial.

She was given CPR, an action which meant she was forced to go to court and face justice for Star’s death.

But the revelation angered the toddler’s grieving family, with Star’s great-grandfather telling The Sun: ‘Star’s injuries were so horrific they couldn’t revive her.

‘And yet, Brockhill is saved. How unfair is that?’

It emerged last week the government could look to increase Smith’s eight-year sentence.

The attorney general has the power to apply to the courts for a sentence to be increased if it is thought to be unduly lenient.

Minister Gillian Keegan, whose brief includes childcare, told LBC that it ‘doesn’t sound like’ justice that Smith had been handed a jail term of just eight years.

Ms Keegan added: ‘It’s a shocking, shocking case – I mean, it’s quite unbelievable.

‘And also the case of poor Arthur (Labinjo-Hughes) as well. I mean, it’s just unbelievable.

‘I mean, obviously the judge and the jury have made their… they recently passed the sentence but, you know, I guess the attorney general has that power as well.’

The government’s top lawyer is also expected to push for an increase to the sentence of the two people responsible for the death of six-year-old Arthur Labinjo-Hughes.

A review has been launched into the manslaughter sentences handed to Emma Tustin 32, who was jailed for life with a minimum term of 29 years and father Thomas Hughes, 29, who was jailed for 21 years.
