South London fire: Huge emergency response as pub bursts into flames

Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters have been called to a fire at Battersea Rise. Video provided by the Fire Brigade showed half of the roof alight.

In a statement from London Fire Brigade, they said: “Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters have been called to a pub fire on Battersea Rise in Battersea.

“Half of the roof is currently alight.

“The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers have taken 18 calls to the blaze.

“The Brigade was called at 1253. Fire crews from Clapham, Wandsworth, Tooting, Brixton and Fulham fire stations are at the scene.

“The cause of the fire is not known at this time.”

An update from the London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters are continuing to tackle the pub fire in Battersea. 

“Part of a split-level flat above the pub and the internal extraction system from the basement to the roof are alight. 

“Please avoid the area.”

A social media user at the scene said it “seems to be under control”.

Traffic twitter account Jambuster posted an image of road closures due to the fires.

They said: “A3 Battersea Rise (SW11) (All Approaches) at the junction of Almeric Road.

“The road has been closed due to a building fire. 

“Traffic is congested on the approach to the closure, diversions are in place.”
