Sophie Wessex tribute: Why the Queen favours Countess for dedication to ‘tricky’ Edward
Queen Elizabeth II took to the throne in 1953 and has since become the longest British rulers in history, surpassing Queen Victoria with a total of 66 years on the throne. As such, she has presided over the growth of her immediate family, with a clear line of succession stretching for the next three generations. While the Queen might be expected to put her trust in her most senior Royal Family members, she instead favours the company of Sophie Wessex.
Queen Elizabeth II is now 93 years old, and as such must rely on help for some of her royal duties.
Recently, Prince Charles accompanied the monarch to open Parliament for a new session, with his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall waiting in the wings.
Camilla joined the Queen for another outing to celebrate the 750th anniversary of Westminster Abbey.
Bur according to a royal insider, Prince Edward’s wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, is her first choice for company before she visits church.

The insider said: “The Queen likes to be completely calm before church and she finds Sophie’s presence soothing.
“She is trusted and relied on by the Queen in a way I couldn’t say applied to the Duchess of Cambridge or the Duchess of Cornwall.
“She is like another daughter to Her Majesty, they are that close.”
Of the Queen’s four children, Edward is the only one who has not divorced and has enjoyed nearly 20 years with his wife.
According to the insider, the Queen “knows that is in no small way down to Sophie’s dedication – she is aware, as his Edward’s mother, what a tricky creature he can be”.
The Queen’s relationship with Sophie also saw her favour the Countess of Wessex as a mentor to Meghan Markle.
When Meghan gave birth to her and Prince Harry’s first child, the Queen allegedly sought Sophie’s talents to help her settle in.
One source told Grazia Sophie’s “quiet” lifestyle ideally suited what the Duke and Duchess were seeking for their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten.

A source told Grazia: “The Queen likes the idea of Sophie being an unofficial mentor to Meghan.
“Sophie is often at Windsor taking the kids riding on the Queen’s horses and playing at the castle.
“It’s a quiet lifestyle, very much the kind Harry and Meghan want for their little one.”
Harry and Meghan have repeatedly pushed their desire for a quiet life, and the Duke of Sussex recently revealed media attention serves as a reminder of his mother’s death.
Talking to ITV last week, the Price revealed Princess Diana’s death is a wound that “festers”, and the pressure of the job often gets to him.
He said: “I think being part of this family, in this role, in this job, every single time I see a camera, every single time I hear a click, every single time I see a flash, it takes me straight back, so in that respect it’s the worst reminder of her life as opposed to the best.”
“Being here now 22 years later trying to finish what she started will be incredibly emotional but everything that I do reminds me of her.
“But as I said, with the role, with the job, with the sort of pressures that come with that, I get reminded of the bad stuff, unfortunately.”
