Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, has “enjoyed quite a surge in popularity” according to a royal commentator. Prince Edward’s wife has been praised for her handling of royal duties and could see a promotion as a result. Daily Mirror Royal Editor Russell Myers explained to ITV Lorraine how the royal fits into Prince Charles and Prince William’s plans for the future of the Royal Family.

He told viewers: “The people that they do want to bring up to the fore are people like Sophie Wessex.

“She has really enjoyed quite a surge in popularity over the last few months.

“The Queen treats her like a daughter and they have a close bond.

“She’s been a tremendous source of support for her.”
