Sophie, Countess of Wessex, 55, and Prince Edward, 56, have two children – Lady Louise Windsor and James Viscount Severn, 12. Former PR firm boss Sophie married the Queen’s youngest son in 1999 and they welcomed Lady Louise to the world on November 8, 2003.

Lady Louise was christened in the private chapel at Windsor on April 24, 2004.

She was the last royal baby to wear the original Honiton Lace christening gown commissioned by Queen Victoria.

Since Lady Louise’s christening, royal babies have worn a precise replica of the original garment for the ceremony.

Lady Louise’s full name is: Louise Alice Elizabeth Mary Mountbatten-Windsor and contains a special tribute to her aunt Princess Anne.

The Princess Royal’s full name is Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise and it seems Prince Edward wished to honour his sister by passing on two of her names to his daughter – as well as one name honouring his mother the Queen.

While Lady Louise and her brother James were given the courtesy title accorded to the children of an earl, they are not styled HRH.

Louise and James will be able to decide whether or not they wish to use their HRH styles when they reach 18.

Sophie and Prince Edward decided to raise their children without royal titles in order to give them as normal upbringing as possible.

Asked the kind of upbringing her children have, the Countess told the Sunday Times Magazine: “They go to a regular school [they both attend top independent schools].

“They go to friends for sleepovers and parties.

She added: “At weekends we do lots of dog walking and stay with friends.

“I guess not everyone’s grandparents live in a castle, but where you are going is not the important part, or who they are.”

She added: “We try to bring them up with the understanding they are very likely to have to work for a living.”

Princess Anne made a similar decision when in regards to raising her two children Zara Tindall, 38, and Peter Phillips.

Anne refused the Queen’s offer of titles for her children choosing to raise them outside the royal bubble instead.

Asked about the decision earlier this year, Anne told Vanity Fair: “I think it was probably easier for them, and I think most people would argue that there are downsides to having titles.”

She added: “So I think that was probably the right thing to do.”

Zara inherited her mother’s talent for horse riding and followed in Anne’s footsteps to become an Olympic equestrian.

She has previously praised her mother’s decision not to give her a title.

In 2015 she told the Times: “I’m very lucky that both my parents decided to not use the title and we grew up and did all the things that gave us the opportunity to do.”

Lady Louise received her GCSE results this summer and has recently started sixth form at private school St Mary’s Ascot.
