Sophie, 54, put on a mask and surgical scrubs at the Special Newborn Care Unit at Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad. The Countess looked strikingly similar to the late Diana, who watched surgeons perform a heart operation on a child at Harefield Hospital in Middlesex in 1996. Sophie travelled to India for a week-long tour to support the work of the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust. Sophie, who is a Vice Patron of the Jubilee Trust, paid a visit to Niloufer Hospital to see how they run programmes to tackle blindness in premature babies.

The issue hit close to home, as the Countess’ daughter Lady Louise Windsor, 15, was born with a severe squint that affected her vision.

Sophie visited a number of hospital across the Indian city of Hyderabad to witness the Jubilee Trust’s work firsthand and hear about how various programme have helped improve the lives of patients.

Surrounded by a team of trained nurses and doctors, the Countess was ushered into the Special Newborn Care Unit where premature babies are treated.

The healthcare professions walked her through ward, as she explained the treatments and services introduced to ensure babies at risk of blindness get the treatment they need.

In a heartwarming moment, Sophie was pictured smiling as she carried a tiny newborn baby wrapped in a pink blanket, who was being fed through a tube.

The Countess was seen speaking to mothers of sick children, and even interacted with the young patients themselves.

Sophie looked vibrant in a blue draped top and matching patterend trousers, with tan wedge shoes.

Later that evening, the Countess dazzled in a £550 green dress “Brooke” dress by Amanda Ross, featuring a split hem and long sleeves.

She paired her look with mustard Mary Jane high heels with a pink sash and belt.

Sophie will travel to Mumbai and New Delhi to round up her tour, and is due to return back to the UK on May 3.

She will visit a school where she will meet Queen’s Young Leader, Deane de Menezes, who is spearheading a project called ‘Red is the new Green’ which aims to remove the stigma around menstruation.

Sophie will also visit a health centre where Queen’s Young Leader Aditya Kulkarni, is pioneering antenatal app “Care Mother” which helps to reduce maternal and child mortality rates in India.
