Sophie and Edward’s ‘warm welcome’ in St Lucia on Caribbean tour sparks royal fan frenzy

The official Royal Family Twitter account posted about the Earl and Countess of Wessex visiting a cocoa plantation on Wednesday followed by a trip to Sulphur Springs, a geo-thermal field and dormant volcano with natural mud baths. According to the firm’s official account the Wessexes went on to visit Soufriere Mini Stadium followed by Investiture at Government House in Morne Fortune, which was conducted by the Earl on behalf of The Queen.

They tweeted: “Yesterday in St Lucia The Earl and Countess of Wessex travelled by boat to Soufriere where they met a warm welcome before travelling on to @fonddoux Cocoa Plantation.

“At @fonddoux Cocoa Plantation The Earl and Countess learned about the cocoa production process and how it contributes to the local economy.

“The Earl and Countess then visited the Sulphur Springs, a geo-thermal field and dormant volcano with natural mud baths.

“Their Royal Highnesses explored the site and heard about the history, evolution and eruption of the volcano.

“At the Soufriere Mini Stadium, The Earl and Countess enjoyed a performance celebrating the young people of St Lucia.

“On behalf of The Queen, The Earl of Wessex conducted an Investiture at Government House in Morne Fortune.

“Among the recipients was Keithlin Caroo, a UN Women Champion for Change and Founder of @HelenDaughters, a non-profit that focuses on rural women’s economic empowerment.”

News of the successful visit and warm reception left royal fans purring on social media.

Writing on Twitter @view_palace wrote: “Fantastic pictures which show how interested the Earl and Countess are in learning about the places and people they visit.”

@TheGreatRose2 added: “Great scene! Countess Sophie, The ‘Listening Friend’ at work!”

On Instagram royal fans were even more effusive when commenting on images of the successful visit to the Caribbean island.
