Son took own life after learning his mum was victim of necrophiliac murderer

A young footballer took his own life after finding out his late mother had been a victim of necrophiliac double murderer David Fuller, an inquest was told.

Jay Carr, 20, suffered from mental health problems after being told by police his mother had been abused by Fuller after her death.

Jordana Carr, Mr Carr’s mother, died in 2015, when he was about 13 years old.

Speaking outside County Hall following the inquest yesterday, his sister Ashlee paid tribute to her brother and said their family had been rocked by a series of tragic events.

She said: “Our family has been through numerous tragedies over the years. Our mother Jordana Carr died in 2015.

“She was far too young and she left a gaping hole in our family.

“My brother Jay was just 13 when our mother died. He took it extremely badly, and for a number of years struggled with serious mental health issues.”

She continued: “As he reached adulthood he was doing much better.

“He had a stable job as a car valet, had a loving girlfriend, Millie, and had a close connection with his football team.

“In October 2021 out of the blue my father and I were notified that my mother’s body was abused by David Fuller, whilst under the care of Pembury Hospital.

“We felt pressured by the police officers who notified us to tell Jay and his siblings. Despite telling the officers of Jay’s vulnerability, they insisted that he be told, which he was later that night, in graphic detail.”

Over the next few months Mr Carr’s mental health “deteriorated”, said his sister.

She added: “He became obsessed with David Fuller, and what he had done to our mother’s body. On September 17 2022 Jay went missing.

“Family, friends and police carried out a search and Jay was found dead on September 20, having taken his own life.

“If we can take anything away from this it is hoped that there will be some reflection as to how police notify families of tragic matters in the future.”

Coroner James Dillon recorded a conclusion of suicide.

After the hearing, Ashlee went on to say how much loved Jay was by those who knew him, adding: “He was a great family man and his nieces and nephews really looked up to him.

“Jay had exceptional entrepreneurial spirit and drive, he was a keen athlete and his loss leaves a heavy heart for many.”

In memory of Jay, a charity football match is being played Ide Hill Select XV will play Jay Carr Select XV at Snodland Town Football Club on July 23 to raise money for West Kent Mind.

Police discovered Fuller sexually abused the dead bodies of at least 102 women and children while working as an electrician at a hospital.

But the now 68-year-old’s shocking crimes came to light after he was linked to one of Britain’s longest unsolved double killings more than 30 years ago.

In December 2021 he was handed a whole life term in prison after admitting killing Wendy Knell, 25, and waitress Caroline Pierce, 20.

During the police investigation Fuller was linked to the 30-year cold cases by a DNA breakthrough that then led police to his stash of sickening recordings of himself abusing corpses.

Between 2008 and 2020, Fuller sexually assaulted up to 100 female bodies aged from nine and 100 years old in hospital mortuaries controlled by the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.

An independent inquiry is currently investigating how Fuller was able to carry out his crimes undetected.
