One of those was the child of Line Of Duty actress Sherise Blackman. Her 11-year-old son was walking home from school on Friday, April 30, at about 4pm, when two men on the street and another man in a black car asked if he wanted a lift and tried to grab him. He ran towards teenagers on a basketball court nearby for help before the men left. Within half an hour an eight-year-old boy was approached in the nearby wooded area of Kelsey Park.

The Met had received another report the day before of a male pupil being followed by a man.

And a fourth incident involved the “perceived” attempted abduction of a young girl at a shopping centre on Friday.

Police said a “lack of similarities” indicated those two incidences were not linked with the April 30 reports that involved Ms Blackman’s son.

Ms Blackman, who appeared as firearms officer Ruby Jones in the BBC police corruption drama, said: “There were appeals for a 10-yearold boy from Lewisham who went missing, then a week later this happened to my son.

“As a mother I always repost these missing children appeals because it’s just the worst thing and lately I have just seen more and more of them.”

Police apologised to her after she complained they did not initially take the report seriously.

Superintendent Andy Brittain said: “Child kidnappings or abductions are, thankfully, incredibly rare, but we are not complacent.

“In order to provide reassurance to the community we have heightened our visible presence in areas where youngsters may gather and I urge anyone who feels worried or concerned to approach my officers.”

Meanwhile, Middlesbrough police yesterday appealed for information about 11-year-old John Connors who had not been seen since Friday night when he was wearing black Nike tracksuit bottoms, a jumper and black and orange Nike trainers.
