Princess Charlene of Monaco, 43, took to social media to wish her followers the very best for 2022. Posting to her 396,000 followers on her official Instagram account, Charlene shared a video with the caption: “Happy New Year.”

The video, posted to the Princess’ Instagram story, was also shared with a love heart emoji.

Charlene’s video promoted the work of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation.

The foundation, set up in 2012, claims its “primary objective is to save lives by putting an end to drowning”.

The foundation’s website adds: “Our mission is to raise public awareness about the dangers of water, teach children preventive measures, and teach them to swim.”

The Zimbabwean-born Princess competed in the Olympics and Commonwealth Games as a swimmer.

During the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, Charlene even won a silver medal in the South Africa 4 by 100metre medley team.

However, the Princess’ Instagram story surprised many of her fans as Charlene has spent Christmas and the New Year continuing her recovery.

Following her return to Monaco from her native South Africa, where she had been stuck since May, Charlene’s husband Prince Albert, 63, said she would enter a facility outside of Monaco to treat her “emotional and physical” exhaustion.

Prince Albert delivered his own address to the 40,000 or so residents in the European Principality.

The speech, delivered without his wife, spoke directly about COVID-19.

He said: “We must act responsibly in the face of this epidemic, not only by observing barrier gestures but by also keeping in mind that, at present, vaccination remains our only truly effective weapon.”

While the Prince did not make any comments about Charlene’s health, he did tell the people of Monaco: “My family and I offer you our warmest wishes for 2022.”
