Soho seemed to be more socially distanced last night judging from photos of the streets.

Last week, for ‘Super Saturday’ when the pubs reopened, there were images of people jammed together in crowds to celebrate.

But this time it seems to have been more sedate, with people sitting at tables outside to avoid coronavirus.

Last week people on social media had criticised a lack of apparent safety in central London, with someone named Derek posting a picture of Soho streets and writing: ‘Madness. 100 days down the pan’.

Another person on Twitter said: ‘Soho in London is jammers, mask on and home time for me. Absolute madness’.

However, elsewhere Friday night was ‘busier than New Year’s Eve’.

Devon and Cornwall Police reported more than 1,200 crime logs on July 10.

RDO Lisa Burnett was working as a 999 call handler for the police force on Friday night and took to Twitter to share her experience of the extreme volume of calls.

She posted about a multitude of drink related incidents including fights, drink driving, missing people, domestic violence, racist attacks and vandalism.

She said: ’23:20 – we have 1,222 logs. Overheard that this is the amount of logs we usually have for New Years.

‘I’ve taken 6,999 calls from the public and other agencies.

‘These are logs I’ve had to create. Half of them are mental health related. All allocated, all getting help.

‘We reached 1,281 logs by midnight. No signs of it slowing down. Lots of alcohol related logs.

‘Remember you can drink and have a good time without being violent.’
