Glasgow is set to descend into chaos just as the UN COP26 climate change conference gets underway. Conservative commentator Darren Grimes told GB News that world leaders “will all be greeted by the sight of SNP mismanagement”. He said that SNP-led chaos in Scotland – from transport strikes to rubbish-strewn streets – will be on display to the world.

Mr Grimes told Dan Wootton: “The world’s elite will be arriving next week into Glasgow, which by the way they will all be greeted by the sight of SNP mismanagement.

“In that, I mean Glasgow is said to be full of streets caked in rubbish, blocked roads, withdrawn trains, glued-down protesters, like those Irritate Britain lot, I mean Insulate Britain.

“And rat infestations – all due to strikes and protest.

“This embarrassment that is likely to come, we will see it next week. It’s on next Sunday.”

There are growing concerns about Scotland will be humiliated on the world stage as leaders land in a city plagued by rodents, fly-tipping, gridlocked roads and bin workers threatening industrial action during the summit.

More than 120 dignitaries and tens of thousands of delegates and activists are expected to show up in Glasgow in the coming days.

COP26 has been presented as an opportunity for Britain to highlight its efforts to tackle the climate crisis and to present the best of what Britain has to offer on the international arena.

However, figures inside Westminster are concerned that the SNP chaos could reflect badly on the UK, with a source inside of the Government quoted as saying: “It will be chaos if this continues.”

Last month it was reported that some 1.3 million rats have invaded the city, with refuse workers describing the city’s streets as “manky”.

Around 1,500 Glasgow refuse and cleaning staff have also confirmed they will strike during the COP26 International Climate Conference due to a pay dispute.

The planned walkout will commence on November 1, the first full day of the summit.

The SNP-led Glasgow City Council has pleaded with the GMB union to reconsider its actions.

Scottish Labour’s transport spokesperson, Neil Bibby, warned of “an embarrassment to Scotland”.

Other transport unions have also pledged strike action during COP26 amid a pay row with ScotRail.

The city’s housing crisis has also wreaked havoc, with some of the 2,000 delegates still struggling to find affordable accommodation.

In response to the situation, a Scottish Government spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “We are proud to welcome COP26 to Scotland, knowing how important the summit is to accelerating international action on the climate emergency.

“We have been working very closely with the UK Government and partners, including Glasgow City Council and Police Scotland, to deliver a safe, secure and successful COP26 in November.

“COP26 represents the world’s best chance – and possibly one of our last chances – to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.

“That’s why it is important that world leaders are coming together in person in Glasgow, to mobilise the ambition, finance, resources and joint working needed to deliver on the Paris Agreement goals.”
