Sky News Australia host Rita Panahi issued a stinging rebuke of Prince Harry as the “real villian” in the unfolding Royal Family drama. It is a week since the bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview aired, and Ms Panahi delivered a scathing assessment of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The Sky News television host described Harry as “cowardly” before adding: “You have to feel sorry for the Queen”.

She said: “Look Meghan may be about as likeable as Veruca Salt but it’s too easy to blame her and for the royal rift; the real villain here is the quisling prince.

“Harry is the one who abandoned his family, his duty and country and then deliberately trashed those who have loved and protected him for decades, particularly since he and William lost their mother.

“He came out of that interview looking like an ungrateful man-child crying about daddy cutting the purse strings.

“God forbid a 36-year-old man should support himself on the meagre $25m his mother left him.

“Or the $20m his great grandmother left him or the huge multimillion-dollar deals he has signed due purely to his royal status.”

Ms Panahi continued: “You’d think Harry would have a little more self-respect than to cry poor but victimhood has become synonymous with virtue.

“In recent years much of the goodwill for Harry has evaporated thanks to his relentless grievance mongering and the hypocrisy of his political activism whether its moaning about global warming as he travels the world in private jets or moaning about media intrusion while doing multiple media deals.

“You have to feel sorry for the Queen here. She deserves better than to have the institution she has devoted her life to trashed by an indulged couple who wanted all the fame and riches of royalty but none of the work or scrutiny.”

The Sky News host pointed out that the couple’s popularity had plunged in the aftermath of the Oprah interview.

Meghan and Harry: Expert criticises Queen’s response

The British public appears to have reacted negatively to the couple’s interview, with Prince Harry’s popularity plunging 15 points after the broadcast, according to a new YouGov survey.

Meghan’s popularity has also sunk by 13 points in the last 10 days, figures from the poll show.

In contrast, Prince William and Kate Middleton remain very popular, with about three-quarters of Britons giving them favourable reviews.

The Queen remains the most popular royal figure, with 80 percent backing her.

Ms Panahi remarked: “If Oprah tell-all was meant to pull at the world’s heart strings, it failed miserably. The pair’s popularity has plunged.”

Harry and Meghan announced they were stepping down as senior royals last year as they wanted to seek financial freedom.

Over the last year, the couple have settled into new independent roles away from the Royal Family as they signed multimillion-pound deals with Netflix and Spotify.

They are expecting a baby girl later this year too.

Harry could return to face his family later in the year to unveil a statue of his late mother Diana, which would mean being reunited with brother William.
