Professor Adam Finn, member of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation told Sky News that he believes there is a “significant chance” lockdown easing plans will change. The professor warned viewers how the Covid situation in the UK is “more up in the air” than it was a couple of weeks ago and predicted a change to the lockdown easing timetable in England. His comments come as there has been a 28.8 percent increase in Covid cases in the last week compared to the week before with cases being driven by the Indian variant.

Professor Finn said: “We are well advanced with the vaccine programme but of course not everyone has been immunised.

“Not everyone has yet had two doses.”

He added: “And therefore this means there are some slightly unknown but to some degree a further risk of number of people who [are being] seriously ill.

“Things are much more up in the air now than they were a couple weeks ago.”

He then went on to question the current lockdown timetable and raised the issue with why it was created in the first place.

The Professor said: “In a way, all the dates all the way through were created just to give everybody some kind of sense of structure.

“But they were always qualified as being based on what actually happened.

“And that they could change.”

But he warned: “I think there is a significant chance that it could change.”

The jabs expert added how caution is better than opening up quickly.

He said: “We are better off being cautious at this point and being able to progressively unlock ourselves.

“Than to over do it and end up in lockdown all over again.”
