A gender reveal party in Mexico ended in tragedy yesterday after a stunt plane crashed, killing the pilot all without guests even realising at first.
In front of a sign that read, ‘Oh, Baby’, footage shared widely on social media shows the aircraft soaring above a farm in a rural part of Navolato, Sinaloa.
The mother and father-to-be had reportedly hired the small jet to fly over Laguna de San Pedro and release dyed water from its fuselage to signify their unborn child’s gender.
The couple shared a kiss and guests cheered as the plane dumped pink water across the field while pink confetti from a nearby cannon erupted.
But without anyone noticing, the aircraft abruptly began to nosedive, with video showing one it its wings bungled mid-air as it still spewed out pink water.
Luis Ángel, 32, from Navaloto, was piloting the white Piper PA-25-235 Pawnee plan, Mexican news outlet Línea Directa Portal reported.
The crash, which was reported to the authorities at around 6:30pm, saw the pilot desperately pull the plane upward to avoid a line of palm trees.
The future parents continued to embrace while family members and other party-goers could be heard congratulating them for having a girl.
According to the Aviation Safety Network, the ‘left-hand wing failed after an emergency hopper release of (pink dyed) water during a general reveal party’.
Emergency services arrived at the scene and performed first aid on Ángel who was found lying limp in the wreckage.
A photograph of the apparent wreckage showed paramedics surrounding the mangled Pawnee.
He was taken to the Mexican Social Security Institute in Navolato but was pronounced dead.
No other injuries were reported.
