TalkRADIO’s Ian Collins spoke with upset caller Mark from Swansea, who told him that his circumspect daughter is refusing to go out and socialise for fear of contracting COVID-19, which she is “petrified” of. Inconsolable Mark told Mr Collins that his 18-year-old daughter has thrown the last two years of her life away as “Ministry of Fear” has taken over and she even occasionally refuses to go to school to stay protected. And given that her father’s powers of persuasion are constantly being ignored, the teenager could end up squandering yet more of the best years of her life.
Mark said: “My daughter is 18, and when the pandemic started she was 16.
“She is absolutely petrified, they have scared the life out of her, the poor little thing.
“Today she hasn’t gone into school because there’s quite a big Covid in school. She’s just petrified no matter what I say or do or explain or whatever.
“The Ministry of Fear has gone up and it’s such a shame.”

Mr Collins echoed Mark’s views, saying that it’s so uncommon for an adolescent to be so cautious, adding that they typically behave more audaciously and inconsequentially at that age.
He said: “That is so sad, particularly at that age as well because normally we hear about teenagers being a bit cavaliers with the rules, they don’t mind breaking the rules.
“And yet on this particular area it’s kind for many youngsters it’s going the other way.”
To lift the spirits, Mark then joked: “What were you doing between 16 and 18? You don’t need to answer that…”

Mr Collins responded with a broad smile on his face: “I can’t even broadcast it Mark”
Mark continued: “Exactly, and she missed out on all of that for two years.
“All this learning, good things, bad things happening, you know all the stuff that you need to learn in life. I feel so sorry for the teenager.”
But while his daughter is adopting the best possible measures to ensure she is safe, father Mark isn’t put off by the danger caused by the recent outbreak of COVID-19 and said that nobody can stop him from going out this weekend.

He said: “I am not having it this Christmas. My father is 77 and last year he spent Christmas on his own. He’s treble-jabbed, I’ve had my jab, I am not anti-vaxxer or anything.
“But whatever anybody says, that’s not happening this year.
“Me and my mates we’re all going out on Saturday night.
“It doesn’t matter, 12 of us going out, girlfriends, boys and everybody.”
