Royal fans praised the Queen for being relentless and committed to her duty despite her advancing age and recent health scare. On Wednesday, Her Majesty virtually presented English poet David Constantine with The Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry.

After Buckingham Palace shared on Thursday an extract of the conversation between the Queen, who was in Windsor, Mr Constantine and the Poet Laureate Simon Armitage, both at Buckingham Palace, royal watchers rejoiced at the sight of the monarch.

One, named Gem, tweeted: “She’s a fighter. Such an inspiration.”

Another, Kathy Albers, said: “Not much keeps the Queen down, not for long. Love it.”

Other royal fans noted the monarch appeared in high spirits following her doctors’ advice to rest. 

The real Lunmsy tweeted: “So delighted to see HM doing well. God bless her even more”.

Twitter user Judy wrote: “She looks great! Her sense of humour is iconic. I love her”.

Another, named Shelly Sommerville, said: “It is so lovely to see the Queen happy.”

And yet another, called Andrew Taylor, noted: “HM looks to be on brilliant form!

“I’m glad to see her doing engagements again”.

During the virtual audience, the Queen smiled and joked with the two poets while wearing a floral dress and her signature pearl necklace.

Speaking to Mr Constantine, the 95-year-old said: “I’m very glad to have the chance to see you if only mechanically this morning”.

She then witnessed Mr Armitage handing the medal to the fellow poet. 

Joking, the Queen added: “I don’t know what you do with it. Do you put it in a cupboard?”

In response to Her Majesty’s question, Mr Constantine said he would put it “somewhere safe”.

He continued: “This evening I shall show it to my children and grandchildren, who are waiting in our house”.

The Queen then replied: “Ah right, well that will be nice. It is rather a nice medal isn’t it?” 

Twitter user Melissa Wood hailed the Queen for her sense of humour, saying: “‘Mechanically’ ‘Cupboard’!!

“I love Her Majesty, what a good sport!”

This audience came just a few hours after the sovereign had met via video link two incoming foreign ambassadors.

The Queen first sparked concern for her health condition on October 20, when Buckingham Palace announced she would not take part in the two-day trip planned to celebrate Northern Ireland’s centenary after being advised by her doctors to rest for a few days. 

The palace also revealed on the following day the monarch had been at King Edward VII Hospital for “preliminary tests” – the nature and results of which have not been disclosed.

Next Monday, the Queen was meant to take part in the evening reception at COP26 in Glasgow.

But, following her doctor’s advice, she agreed to remain at Windsor Castle, from which she will record a video message to world leaders at the gathering.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Camilla and Prince Charles will lead the monarchy’s charm offensive during the much-anticipated climate change summit.
