Royal expert Arthur Edwards admitted he was concerned about Meghan Markle’s comments regarding race and her claim she didn’t know a lot about the Royal Family. While speaking on Australia’s 7News, he insisted that Meghan and Harry gave different accounts of the race issue regarding their son Archie. He added that Meghan had previously shown an interest in the Royal Family as he questioned her claims that she had no knowledge of the British monarchy before meeting Harry.

Mr Edwards said:  “Some of the things that were said in the interview by Meghan like the fact that she said she knew nothing about the royals.

“In 1996 she was sitting by the railings outside with a friend watching Trooping of the Colour

“You can’t tell me that she didn’t know anything about the royals.

“She did, she knew about Harry and watched him at the funeral as Harry walked behind his mother’s coffin.”

Mr Edwards continued: “So, that was something I think mislead the American public a wee bit.”

A picture of the Duchess of Sussex sitting on railings outside Buckingham Palace with a friend during her teenage years became viral after being shared on social media following the interview Meghan and Harry gave Oprah Winfrey earlier this month.

Meghan stunned viewers during the interview when she claimed she had not done any research before marrying into the family.

She said: “Thank God I didn’t know a lot about the family.

“Thank God I hadn’t researched. I would’ve been so in my head about it”

Both Harry and Meghan have been criticised for this claim, with many arguing that, if true, it was Harry’s responsibility to inform Meghan about the expectations she would have to fulfil as a senior member of the Royal Family.

The photo of Meghan sitting outside of Buckingham Palace had emerged shortly before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex married in May 2018.

Some royal fans remarked the image was proof “that you never know what happens next.”

During the interview with Oprah, Meghan and Harry spoke about their struggle with public expectations and alleged failure from the Royal Family to support them.

The Duchess of Sussex also claimed an unnamed member of the family had expressed concerns about the colour of their son Archie’s skin before his birth.

Buckingham Palace released a statement two days after the interview, admitting they were “saddened” to learn of the difficulties Meghan and Harry faced and saying claims about Archie would be handled “as a family.”
