Shamima Begum ‘stitched suicide vests and carried an AK-47’ according to fresh reports

The schoolgirl from Bethnal Green has previously said she was not involved ISIS’s brutality and spent her time as a devoted housewife. However, anti-ISIS activist group Sound and Picture told The Sunday Telegraph Ms Begum allegedly carried a Kalashnikov rifle and earned a reputation as a strict “enforcer” of ISIS laws. She is also said to have stitched suicide bombers into explosive vests, according to the Mail on Sunday.

Ms Begum left Bethnal Green at just 15 to travel to Syria with two other schoolgirls.

She said she concentrated on raising her children with jihadi fighter Yago Riedijk who also supports her account.

But she reportedly worked for an ISIS police unit with Muslim convert Sally Jones.

Afterwards she allegedly worked for in al-Hisba, a religious enforcement unit, the Sunday Telegraph reported.

An activist from Sound and Picture told the paper: “Members of our group from Raqqa knew her well.

“If you get the chance to interview her again you can ask her about an incident that happened in al-Amassi Street in Raqqa in 2016, when she was with the Hisba.

“She shouted at a civilian woman wearing brightly coloured shoes and told her that was ‘haram’, or not permissible, as this would attract the attention of men. The woman said to her, ‘so why is it ok for you to wear coloured shoes?’ Shamima was herself wearing white and pink trainers.”

Ms Begum is said to have tried to recruit young women across Europe.

She reportedly used the pseudonym “Umm Asma” online in messages seen by the Telegraph.

A senior intelligence source told the Mail on Sunday: “She was involved and her former comrades have grassed her. She was literally stitching the vests, stitching them into the vests.”

Ms Begum has begged to return to the UK from a refugee camp in Syria while pregnant with her third child who subsequently died.

However, her British citizenship was revoked.
